Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley encouraged Barbadians to plant vegetables or raise a rabbit or two to assist with food needs.
This was one of the highlights during her address to the nation on Thursday 14th July 2022.
Prime Minister Mottley told Barbadians, “Our survival rests in our hands. If we are going to feed ourselves through this crisis and beyond, we need to create the environment to support our farmers.”
“There is a need to ensure we have food security and we have spent significant time with our farmers in the region as well as trying to ensure ways to boost production during the course of this year.”
She emphasized, “If each household can supplement its own supply by planting a few heads of lettuce, cabbage, carrot, spinach, christophene or beans or keeping two rabbits or blackbelly sheep or a few yard fowls in the backyard can make a huge difference to families being able to cope in this country.”
