Four Barbadian Athletes headed to NACAC

Four Barbadians athletes are on their way to the NACAC Open Championship being held in
Freeport, Grand Bahamas from August 19 th – August 21 st 2022.
These four athletes are Gold Medalist Sada Williams, 110m silver medalist Shane Brathwaite,
Kuron Griffith and Sonia Gaskin.
At present Sonia Gaskin is the National record holder in the 1500m which she set in 2019 with a
time of 4:26.37 but will run the 800m race whilst Kuron Griffith will represent Barbados in the
100m and 200m races. Griffith is no stranger to competition with a seasons’ best of 10.31 in the
100m and a 20.86 in the 200m.
Mrs. Esther Maynard, PRO at the Athletics Association of Barbados told Barbados Weekly,
“Having had such a good season so far with both Sada Williams and Shane Brathwaite winning
medals at the recent Commonwealth Games, we expect these four athletes will do very well at
NACAC. It will also gives Sonia and Kuron the opportunity to compete at this level as we look
forward to great things from them.”
