537 is the new death toll from the dreaded Covid -19 in Barbados after 5 people lost their
fight to Covid, one of which was an 82-year-old man who died on Tuesday 23 rd August 2022.
Along with this the Coroner’s office reported four other Covid -19 deaths in the community
within two weeks.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Ian Gooding has extended condolences to the family and loved
ones of the deceased.

Covid -19 Update
As of August 23 rd 2022 there were 221 new Covid -19 cases.105 females and 116 males were
recorded from 877 tests conducted on Tuesday 23 rd August 2022 by labs across the island.
The cases were made up of 26 people under the age of 18 and 195 people are 18 years of age
and older.

At present, 70 people are currently in isolation facilities across the island, whilst 2,241 are doing
home isolation. Since February 2020, the laboratories have conducted and 751,102 tests with
100,191 people testing positive for Covid-19, 54,895 females and 45,296 males.
Under the National Vaccination Programme for Covid-19, the total number of people with at
least one dose is:

1 – 163,149 (71.4 % of the eligible popular)
2 – 154, 321(56.9% of the total population (67.6 percent of the eligible population).

NB: The eligible population refers to people 12 years and older.
