Jonathan Jones of Barbados takes bronze medal with a time of 44.89 in the Commonwealth games in the Men’s 400M final in Birmingham, England. Mathew Hudson-Smith of England took silver with 44.81 and Muzala Samukonga of Zambia took gold with a PB of 44.66.
The Barbadian athlete told the media after his race, “I am so proud of my season, and I am grateful to leave with a podium finish. I wanted to leave with a first position but to come here and experience the culture, experience and leave with a medal I am very proud.”
He explained, “My strength is in my finish. At the start I was nervous when the guy on my outside got out quicker than expected because usually, I like to close in the first 150m so him pulling away forced me to improvise and pull out quicker than I wanted, so I decided this is do or die. I wanted a medal, so I put everything in my body aside and made sure I got to the top three.”
He noted, “It’s a proud moment for Barbados capturing a gold, silver and bronze medal.”
